Where we grow

We own and operate our three mushroom farms in Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia, including one of the most advanced mushroom-growing sites in the Southern Hemisphere, in Monarto, South Australia. Every step of the growing and packing process is in our hands, ensuring that we can supply fresh, premium mushrooms year-round.

We produce our own mushroom spawn using exclusive Amycel varieties, grown under licence to ensure consistent quality across all our farms.

Our avocados are grown across Australia’s prime growing regions in Queensland’s Atherton Tablelands and Childers, the Mid North Coast of New South Wales and South Australia’s Riverland. Costa’s bananas are grown across 320 acres in the tropical climates of Far North Queensland, with our primary farms located in Walkamin. We also partner with long-term growers located in regions like Cowley Beach, Innisfail, Lakeland and Mareeba, ensuring a continuous year-round supply for you to enjoy.

Costa’s international berry farms and third-party grower grower farms extend across Northern and Southern Africa, China and Laos, bringing the freshest, highest-quality blueberries to global markets:

  • Morocco: Since 2007, our 11 African Blue farms in key regions have ensured a steady blueberry supply.
  • China: Eight berry farms dedicated to the Chinese market provide premium blueberries tailored to local tastes.
  • Laos: A new berry farm is being established in Laos in 2025.

Costa’s Variety Improvement Program is one of the world’s leading plant breeding programs for new Southern Highbush blueberry varieties that thrive in no and low chill climates.

Headquartered in Corindi, Australia, the program leverages over three decades of expertise and a vast network of farms to breed new varieties suited to diverse climates and latitudes. Every year, the program delivers 1-2 new global varieties, selected for superior fruit quality, adaptability, and performance to meet evolving consumer tastes and changing climatic conditions.

Using innovative breeding methods and substrate production systems, we’ve fast-tracked our timeline to deliver new berry varieties within seven years.

Extensive breeding program

With three breeding locations across Australia, our program develops a diverse portfolio of varieties suited to a wide range of climates—from low latitude no chill to mid-chill regions. Each variety is designed to tackle key sustainability goals including climate adaptability, pest resistance and water efficiency, as well as higher yields and harvest labour efficiency.

Located on the Mid North Coast of NSW, this facility drives our breeding pipeline, nurturing seedlings and advancing field trials to develop exceptional new varieties.
