Costa has recently been recognised for excellence in risk management and health and safety.
The 16th annual RM Advancer Awards, hosted by Vero and GIO Workers Compensation, celebrate exceptional risk management initiatives in Australian businesses. Costa Group stood out, earning prestigious accolades in both the commercial and workers’ compensation and liability categories. Their achievements reflect proactive strategies, such as addressing risks related to heat stress and manual handling injuries and providing support through designated contact officers. These efforts have significantly lowered injury incidents, elevating Costa’s workers’ compensation practices to best-in-class status.
In addition, Costa’s Procurements Project team received an honourable mention for extensive testing of various glass panels to ensure its Guyra glasshouses can withstand severe hail, along with other risk avoidance areas. That test data is now used by both the glasshouse supplier and global glass manufacturers.
Michael Miller, chief executive of commercial and personal injury at Suncorp, praised Costa’s approach, aligning it with this year’s awards theme: resilience over time. “This year’s theme was all about risk management standing the ‘test of time,’ and both our winners exemplify the importance of keeping risk management front of mind in safeguarding their businesses,” Mr Miller said.
In Western Australia, the Casuarina mushroom team has been recognised for its health and safety activities, winning the Health & Safety Representative and Committee Award in the WHA Foundation WHS Awards.
This award underscores the dedication and hard work that has gone into creating a strong, well-rounded health and safety committee on-site, driven by a passion for promoting a safe workplace every day.
